With classes back in full swing, it is time to learn a thing or two. But with that also comes the time to fully enjoy Butler and hang out with friends again that you may not have seen this summer and catch that Pikachu in the library. That is right, Pokemon Go! has made its way to Butler and students are having a blast already.
Pokemon Go! is managed by the company Niantic and has been on the market for users since this summer and users worldwide are going crazy about it. The game has almost every single Pokemon that you can think of with more coming in later updates. Also in the game, you get to choose a team to be on: Valor, Instinct and Mystic. Valor is led by Candela and Valor is driven by the thirst for power. Instinct is led by Sparky, and they are driven by the trust in their Pokemon. Lastly, Mystic is led by Blanche, and they are driven by wisdom and logic rather than force and trust. Regardless of what team is chosen, the user still has the same ability to catch Pokemon and battle than every single player out there.

“My favorite part about Pokemon Go! is that it gets you outside,” said freshman Yailine Gonzales. “I used to be a huge couch potato and never leave my house, but now I am constantly looking for a Gyrados or Pikachu downtown. It is so exciting to see everyone out enjoying the world and catching Pokemon at the same time.”

Gonzales is on team Instinct.

Pokemon Go! requires a smartphone or iPhone with the ability to download large apps. That’s all players need to get out and start “catching them all.”

“I love to battle other gyms and take them over,” said sophomore Dylan Hedrick. “I am on team Mystic and everyone knows that Mystic shall rise and conquer the Pokemon world, no matter how big-headed Valor may think they are and how intellectual Instinct thinks they are. Mystic shall reign supreme.”

In the game, players have the chance to battle rival gyms from different teams. If the gym is beaten, the gym is taken over by whatever team won the fight. There are two different gyms on the Butler of El Dorado campus: one at the “Ignition” statue next to the 700 building and one at the reader statue south of the 200 building. Players are constantly found there, battling it out for gym-supremacy.

“No matter what Instinct and Mystic say, Valor will take this game over by brute force if it is the last thing we do,” said freshman Jillian Klose. “Pokemon has been my favorite thing since I was a little kid and now that I have the chance to use the power of my Pokemon to take over every gym I can, I will make sure Valor is top-dog.”

One thing is for sure, Pokemon Go! is a global phenomenon that has taken over Butler and it is here to stay. Hoping that students get their work done, they will for sure be out walking campus trying to track down a Weezing or Snorlax all year long.
