Netflix is definitely the best way to watch movies and TV shows nowadays and with Netflix comes some bomb originals that are worth checking out. Of course there’s Orange is the New Black, but Netflix has topped that with Stranger Things, and let me be the first to say, it’s better than OITNB.
Stranger Things takes place in a small town in Hawkins, Ind., where we find four boys. They hang out all the time, do things together is until one of them goes missing. Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) must band together along with an unusual sidekick in their new friend Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Elle for short, to find their friend Will (Noah Schnapp), who has been captured by something evil and mysterious they call the Demigorgon. There is a government lab in town that is very secretive on what work they do inside and what happened could possibly be linked to the lab somehow.
This series is very different from anything else that is on TV because it is suspenseful from beginning to end. At the beginning, you’ll fall in love with these young boys and Elle that they become like the younger brother or sister that you never had. I connected a lot with Elle because she comes from a very troubled past yet, she likes to help others out so that they don’t have to go through hard times like she did and that’s exactly what I like to do in my life.
Winona Ryder plays Joyce Byers, the mother of Will, and I’ll be damned if this woman does not win an award for her performance in this series. She had me yelling, crying and screaming right along with her because I wanted to find her son as much, if not, more than she did. Her drive and willingness to find her son really ties this whole series together.
When I first started to watch it, many of my friends told me it was fantastic, but I really didn’t believe them because I had the mentality that Orange is the New Black reigned supreme and nothing could beat it but Stranger Things does by a long shot. I would rate this series an 11-out-of-10 and I say that honestly. I’m a very tough critic when it comes to shows and cinema, but I cannot put into words how beautifully written and directed this show is. The cinematography is jaw-dropping, the acting and character growth is superb and the emotions you feel while watching the show are beyond crazy.
Everyone open your phone, computer or whatever you use to watch Netflix and please watch this series. Although it is only eight episodes long, with each episode being one-hour in length, the show has already been picked up for a second season and said to have around 15 episodes. Will the boys and Elle be able to help Joyce find Will before the Demigorgon decides to do away with him? Find out in the fantastic new series, Stranger Things.
