The women’s volleyball team started out the year with a good record of 4-3 overall, along with 0-2 mark in conference. The Grizzlies four-game win streak was snapped on Wednesday, Aug. 31, with a five-set conference road loss at Cloud County. The match began with a come-from-behind 25-21 set win for the Grizzlies, but then they lost the next two, 26-24 and 25-22. The Grizzlies then tied up the match on the fourth set, winning it 25-15. The Grizzlies could not close it out in the fifth set, losing 15-9. Cloud County never trailed in the fifth set, ultimately leading them to a victory over the Grizzlies.
The team later moved on to play in Liberal where they were set to face Seward County on Friday, Sept. 2. The Grizzlies, coming into that match, were 4-4 overall and 0-3 in conference and Seward County was 4-2 overall and 1-1 in their conference. The match started out with a close 25-22 win from the Grizzlies but it was all for not as they dropped the next three sets losing them 25-17, 25-23 and 25-16. This was the second loss in a row for the Grizzlies.
Next on the Grizzlies schedule was Barton on Wednesday, Sept. 7. The day started out with a 25-16 loss for the Grizzlies and then a 25-22 loss and finally finishing the day off with a close 26-24 decision making that a three set to zero loss match for Butler. This extended their losing streak to three games.
After picking up their third straight loss, the Grizzlies, next opponent was the Colby Trojans. The Grizzlies dropped the first set 25-17 and then lost the second set 25-22 and finally losing the third and final set by a close 26-24. This made the fourth straight loss for the Grizzlies before coming back home to face the last team they picked up a win against.
On Tuesday, Sept. 13, the Grizzlies faced Friends JV at home. This second meeting between the two teams was nothing different from the first. Like the first meeting between the two teams, the Grizzlies swept the Friends JV squad three sets to zero, starting with a 25-13 set win for the Grizzlies and then a 25-14 and finally a 25-18 set win that helped the team improve to a 5-6 overall. This finally snapped their losing skid of four matches.
