We’ve all seen the movie, we’ve all heard her tale and we all know what happened to those three film students in Burketsville, Md., back in 1999. Whether we believe it or not, we have to accept the fact that the legend of the Blair Witch will never die. And guess what, she’s back.

From director Adam Wingard comes Blair Witch, which follows Jason (James Allen McCune), who is the brother of Heather from The Blair Witch Project. He sees an online video of what he believes to be his sister alive in the Burketsville woods and he sets out to find her and enlists the help of his friends, Lisa (Callie Hernandez), Ashley (Corbin Reid), and Peter (Brandon Scott) to help him find his sister. Is Heather really alive, or is this just some trickery by the Blair Witch?

When I first started to watch this movie, I had the mindset that it was a remake of The Blair Witch Project, and boy, was I wrong. I love how they tell the story from Jason’s perspective, and you get to see the drive and perseverance he has to find his sister. We all know who is waiting for him and his friends whenever he gets out there. It turns from a search and rescue mission to a survival one pretty quick.

One of my favorite parts is actually getting to see the Blair Witch in the flesh or ghost flesh that is. In The Blair Witch Project, you never actually see the witch, but this time you do and just for a warning, brace yourself.

As things start to go awry and the Blair Witch attacks them, the cinematography is a bit shaky, and I didn’t necessarily enjoy it because they shoot in the point-of-view of Jason, and the crew meaning that the movie is shot with hand-held camcorders.

I honestly didn’t think The Blair Witch Project was terribly scary, but this one has upped the ante so to speak. It was horrifying to me, and I closed my eyes and jumped so many times, it wasn’t even possible to count the number of times it happened. It’s a lot more graphic than The Blair Witch Project, I will say that, but I don’t mind blood and gore.

Overall, Blair Witch was pretty good, not the best horror movie I have seen but it was decent. I would rate it a six out of 10, and I really do recommend this movie to anyone, especially if you’ve seen The Blair Witch Project. Don’t go into the movie judging it off of the first one because it is not a remake. Go see it, love it and ask yourself this question: Do you believe in the stories of the Blair Witch?
