Turner’s Coffee and Donuts opened Monday, Sept. 1, 2015 and has now become the third bakery in El Dorado. This means competition for the El Dorado favorites Russell’s Daylight Donuts and BrewCo Coffeehouse.
Turner’s is a family owned donut shop here in El Dorado, and they have become quite popular. They have yet to create a website, but they have a Facebook page also titled “Turner’s Coffee and Donuts.” The page also includes their hours, location and phone number. They are located at 405 N. Main St., and consumers can contact them at 316-321-3668. The donut shop has pretty intersting hours, but it seems to work well for them. They don’t open until two a.m. and they close at 12 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. These hours work perfectly for college students pulling an “all nighter,” for truck drivers cruising through the town at night or even those who enjoy getting an early start in the morning.

When walking into Turner’s, I was pleasantly greeted by the wafts of cinnamon and freshly fried donuts. The first thing I viewed was the vibrantly, lit donut case. There was a very wide variety of color, glaze and size of donut. My eyes were set on the donuts and other pastries sitting on the counter ready to be purchased. The selection of donuts included a few jelly-filled, cake donuts, glazed, chocolate, strawberry and traditional frosted.

Their most popular donut is “The Pinecone,” an original glazed donut in the shape of a pinecone. The donut was just as big, if not bigger, as my hand. Every layer of donut that I pulled apart was just as soft and chewy as the next. It was sweet and satisfying the entire time. The business also has wifi, and the password is the same name as their most popular donut, “pinecone.”

Other than donuts, Turner’s also has many other pastries and drink options. There is fresh brewed coffee all day, milk, apple and orange juice and soda. Their savory options include bierocks and a jalapeno wrap.

When it comes to deals, Turner’s knows how to serve them. Everything for purchase in the shop is less than $5. The best deal at Turner’s is $8 for a dozen donuts. This deal essentially gives you 12 donuts for 67 cents each, which is quite the bargain.

Although I was greeted with a smile, the customer service could have been improved with a bit more conversation. All in all, I would give Turner’s Coffee and Donuts four out of five cups of coffee.
