So you’re a student who wants to get involved, huh? Oh, you don’t think student involvement is “cool”? Well here I am to tell you that you are wrong!

Student involvement is the COOLEST, let me tell you. Being involved in whatever it is that you are interested in is cool, I promise. There is so much to do here at Butler, I can almost guarantee you can find something to do.

Go to sporting events. Stand up and cheer even if everyone around you is sitting down, their noses in their phone busy checking their Twitter. Make a fool of yourself by dressing head to toe in Butler purple and gold and screaming so loud that you lose your voice. Once one student starts getting into the game, it is a chain reaction of students getting the same enthusiasm that you have.

Are sports not your thing? That’s ok…there are such a variety of clubs on campus that students can get involved in. Find what you are interested in and find a club that offers those things. If you are interested in religion, well there are clubs for that. Are you interested in your culture, or the cultures of others? Check out one of the cultural groups at Butler! There is the Black Student Association, Hispanic American Leadership Organization and the International Student Association. A complete list of student organizations can be found on the Butler website.

All students can audition for the plays and musicals that the theatre department puts on. So if you are interested in theatre keep your eye on the audition schedule and make your way over to the 700 building and audition!

If you live on campus, get involved with the hall events that your RA has throughout the school year. They take time out of their schedule to plan something with their residents, and they deserve to have people show up.

The Student Government Association (SGA) is constantly holding events that are absolutely FREE to students. Everyone knows how much college students love free stuff…you know, because we are all so broke.

“Being involved in school activities allows you to interact with people different than yourself and experience different ideas, thoughts and customs,” SGA President Sierra Cargill said. “Being involved with school activities allows you to be more rounded and open and prepares you to be a part of a larger community.”

Stop worrying so much about what people think about getting involved. It does not make you a loser for wanting to do something that maybe your friends don’t have interest in. Find something that is interesting to you and find ways to get involved in them. Make your time at Butler something to remember.
