Butler hosted the Isom Memorial Invitational Monday, Oct. 17. Both men and women did phenomenally well. The weather was 90 degrees and very windy. For the women, they finished fifth overall as a team, racking up 128 points.
The Grizzlies lead runner was freshman Irine Jepkemboi, who finished tenth place with a time of 20:57.59. Following her was Roshae Burrell (22:22.44) (27th), and Jade Searles (22:27.22) (28th).
Two others who also put up some points for the women were sophomore Janie Salinas (22:50.60) (38th) and freshman Jessica Finney (23:35.07) (49th). Other runners included Alex Fulton (23:35.15) (50th), Ariente Sims (23:36.75) (51st), Darian Trost (23:47.66) (54th), Tesla Madsen (23:52.20) (56th), Jeanna Baker (23:54.95) (57th), Kimberly Travis (27:11.65) (84th), and Madison Bissell (29:13.93).
For the men, they finished first place as a team. They finished with a total of 39 points. That’s the men’s third first place win in the last four meets. Leading the Grizzlies was Boniface Kiptoo, finishing a remarkable third overall with a time of 27:03.04. Following was Eliud Koech (27:31.65) (6th) and Emmanuel Biwott (28:05.14) (9th) rounding off the top ten. Other runners were Joel Santiago (29:07.38) (13th), Juan Alvarez (29:10.76) (15th), Jacob Hesse (30:29.47) (35th) and Hillary Kiptoo placing 38th with a time of 30:39.37.
The Butler women are currently placed 12th in the nation, and the men are ranked fifth. The next meet will be the Region IV Championship on Saturday, Oct. 29 in Hutchinson.
