The Butler men’s basketball team had their second game of the year in the Power Plant, here in El Dorado, Saturday, Nov. 19. The men took on the Barton Community College Cougars and were defeated by a score of 74-56.
The Cougars handled Butler’s fast paced tempo of play and were able to capitalize on every given opportunity. Ezekiel Charles led the Cougars in scoring with 22 points, shooting 8-13 on the night with two threes.
The Grizzlies were led once again in scoring by sophomore Will Adler with 15 points.      Overall, the Grizzlies as a team only shot 34.5 percent on the night and only 25 percent from behind the arc.
The Cougars defense shut down the hot hands of the Grizzlies while also forcing 17 turnovers. Barton, at one point in the game, increased their lead all the way up to 27, which was the largest lead of the game, completely silencing the loud and proud Grizzly crowd.
A positive for the Grizzly men, on the other hand, was their free throw shooting. The team shot 11-15 at the charity strike to try and cut down the lead as much as possible.
Probably the biggest statistical category in this game, however, was the rebounds. Barton out-rebounded Butler 40 to 19 on the game. This led to many more opportunities to score for the Cougars, and they took all the opportunities they could.
Overall, Barton controlled the pace of the game, the rebounding and the fundamentally sound defense in order to hand Butler their second loss on the year.
Barton is now 6-0 on the year and looking to continue that way as Butler heads to Cowley to try and get their second conference win on the season.
