A diamond in the rough would be a perfect description of local coffee shop, Jacob’s Well. Cozied in the middle of historic Main street off of N. Main St. and 1st Ave., Jacob’s Well has been around since 2005 and has since switched ownership three times. The most recent owners, Tyler and Molly Brickley, took over the Well in 2011 and have been running it since then.
The Well has two entrances one from the east, so you can enter coming from Main and another from the west behind the buildings with extended parking. Entering from the west entrance, there is a patio-like area with a small flowerbed and trees with a laid brick path leading to the back door of the coffee shop.
Immediately upon entering, a server welcomes you with a warm smile and ushers you to come in and take a seat. There are options for dining in as well as taking your order to go whether you call in or order in the café. However, should you decide to sit in, the servers spare no expense to provide a warm experience.
The food at the Well is excellent. There are two ways of ordering food, either choose any two, or a sandwich and side. The any two option lets you choose a half sandwich, soup and a side salad, and the sandwich and side lets you choose a whole sandwich and a side of pasta salad, potato salad or chips.
There is a wonderful selection of hot and cold sandwiches. Favorites are the turkey bacon panini, a smoked turkey breast with provolone cheese, sliced tomatoes topped with bacon and their homemade honey mustard grilled on a rosemary focaccia bun. Another fantastic sandwich is the Artichicken, baked chicken mixed with a homemade artichoke dip, swiss cheese and pita chips grilled on a delicious sourdough bread. An excellent side to pair your meal with is their pasta salad. Apart from the food, the drinks are fantastic. Some favorites are the caramel macchiato, the Snickers latte, the venice and their mocha.
Pros of the coffee shop are definitely their food, freshly prepared and always delicious. Another pro is the coffee, which is brewed right in front of you and piping hot with flavor.
The environment of the coffee shop is without a doubt another highpoint. With Butler Community College just down the road, it is an excellent spot to sit down, relax and do homework. One of the possible downsides would be the prices. The portions aren’t huge, so one could get the feeling of not getting their money’s worth once the food comes out; however, the saying goes quality over quantity. Another minor gripe is the parking. On a busy day, it is sometimes difficult to maneuver the lot.
Hours of operation are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. You can find more information as well as online ordering information at their website, ilovethewell.com.
