Just one year removed from winning it all, Butler softball is back in action, and they have not missed a beat, going undefeated with a 7-0 record to start the season.

They started the season on Saturday, Jan. 28, by defeating Northeast Texas Community College and scoring an incredible 17 runs to defeat Northeast Texas 17-3. They then proceeded to defeat North Central Texas College 8-3.

On Friday, Feb. 3, the Grizzlies had a triple header, taking on Galveston College, Navarro College and Ranger College, in Fort Worth, Texas. They won all three games by beating Galveston 7-6 in 9 innings, Navarro College 9-7 and Ranger College 14-6.

They had two games the next day on Saturday, Feb. 4, with those coming against Lamar State College and Seminole State College. Their undefeated season would continue as they beat Lamar State, 12-5, and squeaked by Seminole State, but still getting the victory, coming out on top 3-2.

The Grizzlies have been clicking on all cylinders, especially on the offensive side of the game, with an average of 10 runs per game so far this season. The team has a combined 81 hits, 14 doubles and already 8 triples as well. They have also already hit six home runs.

Along with their hitting, their pitching has been dominant as well, posting a sparkling 1.29 team ERA (earned run average) and a .276 BAA (batting average against). Those are the kinds of things the Grizzlies will have to keep doing to maintain this success, and they have shown no signs of slowing down.

The Grizzlies will enjoy a much needed rest, as their next game is not until Thursday, Feb. 16, a double-header at Rose State College. The start times for those games will be 1 and 3 p.m. They don’t start conference play until Wednesday, March 1, when they will go head to head in a double header against Dodge City.
