The Butler women took advantage of a shorthanded Dodge City team en route to a 70-52 win on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at the Student Activity Center in Dodge City.

Dodge City competed with just seven players and could not keep pace with a Butler team that was playing with their upbeat tempo. The Grizzlies jumped out to a 21-11 lead after the first quarter and kept that momentum going their way throughout the game.

“We kind of got off to a slow start, but were able to turn up the intensity a notch,” Butler coach Mike Helmer said.

Freshman Kendriana Washington led the Grizzlies with 18 points on seven of 11 shooting from the field, while sophomores Raven Prince and Dakota Vann each scored 17 points. The duo of Prince and Vann added double digit rebounding totals with 13 boards from Vann and 12 from Prince.

The Grizzlies dominated the stat sheet, out rebounding the Conquistadors 57-41, while Butler also forced 28 Dodge City turnovers. The Grizzlies dominated the scoring inside, outscoring Dodge City 48-20 in the paint. Butler’s defense prevailed again and scored 20 points in transition.
