A long time coming…that has been the mindset of one true baller on this campus. Sophomore Johnny Lindsey lives his life in a different world than most students. Standing at 6’4”, he is not your typical big man. No, he is something much more. So how does he compete with the almost seven footers that he is tasked with guarding on a daily basis. Well, Lindsey has always had an answer truer than Allen Iverson. With a 45 inch vertical, Lindsey can really jump. Some would call his hops “Stupid Bounce,” which makes sense considering his incredible bounce puts him in the ranks of former NBA star Michael Jordan. Raised in Detroit, Mich., Lindsey was raised tough. With his crazy hops and hooping ability, Lindsey was offered several playing opportunities, finally settling on Butler.
“It was a great choice to get out of my home state and seek exposure somewhere else,” Lindsey said. “After Butler, [I plan] to continue with my athlete career and continue to grow my business while doing so.”
Jet Peezy, his Instagram nickname, has firmly placed himself on the map with over 6,000 followers. Lindsey has built up an audience that loves his personality and the multiple crazy dunks he can perform in his off time. Name a game from this season and we can pull footage that shows that Lindsey is more than just a trick dunker. Putting several people on a poster dunk, Lindsey is just marking off each and every one from his hit list.
Don’t be fooled: Lindsey is no freak athlete that does not have to work to jump high. Lindsey has dedicated his years to working on adding the inches to his vertical. Years of studying and the help of Ben Price, who has a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, have allowed Lindsey to create his own program. Remember the term used earlier “Stupid Bounce,” it turns out that the term most people use to describe him was what Lindsey wanted to name his company.
“I do a lot of explosive workouts and bodybuilding exercises to maintain the performance I have,” Lindsey said.
In regards to his business, Lindsey is excited to see where it takes him and is also a great fall back plan after basketball.
“The most exciting part of owning my own business [are] the people that I connect with from all over the world and also helping kids of all ages become greater than they [ever] thought they could be,” Lindsey said.
