Top Right:  Members of the Chamber Singers harmonize together in one of their songs. This group focuses more on lyrics and melody, rather than dancing and hitting a pose. On Thursday, March 9, the Butler Vocal Department opened their winter vocal concert on a “high note” and of course audiences loved it. This concert comes just a few short weeks after the department wrapped up their work on a special concert that took place at Century II in Wichita, “Carousel: A Concert,” in which they joined forces with the Wichita Symphony to produce the wonderful performance. This winter concert has everything from a little love, a little drinking and a little Broadway.

The vocal department had to work extra hard in order to prepare for “Carousel” back in February and also to get ready for the winter showcase. The students and faculty are so dedicated to their work, that you could not even tell that the department had done a huge concert in February and only had a little while to get ready for this one.

“Once ‘Carousel’ was over, there was so much more time cleared up that I could focus on the winter concert,” sophomore Headliner Calder Klink said. “It actually got much easier to get stuff done. It just takes a lot of water, so that I do not lose my voice.”

This concert is a little bit shorter than the previous ones but that is just because the faculty did not want to overwork the performers. The show was a success regardless of length because the performers are dedicated to their work and look forward to putting on a great show for the audience.

“It was a wonderful show,” freshman Ross Lawrence said. “I am new to Butler this semester, but I went to ‘Carousel’ in Wichita and I kind of knew what to expect coming into this performance. I was blown away on how quickly they turned around and prepared for this concert. I was especially blown away by the Butler Ladies’ performance, [for] they were very sparkly and on point.”

The best part about the performance is that the students involved absolutely love what they do, and you can tell whenever you watch a performance. Their relationships they share while on stage, also carry over into their lives out of the spotlight.

“[I love] getting together with the girls,” sophomore Butler Lady Gillian Stuart said. “Just hanging out and learning the dances from Maddie [Robison].”

The winter concert was a hit and according to sophomore Chamber Singer Kayla Crockett, music has already begun to be picked out for the next concert. The vocal department works hard in order to put on a great show, even if that means working double-time in order to be prepared for the next concert.
