Tesla Bethel & Jack Clayton

The movie Logan premiered March 3 and is Hugh Jackman’s last movie as the iconic character Wolverine. It takes place in 2025 in a dystopian society in which mutants are basically extinct. Two Butler Lantern reporters Tesla Bethel and Jack Clayton saw this movie and shared their thoughts about Logan.
Jack: Alright, so let’s just address the elephant in the room. I nearly cried at the very end.
Tesla: That movie broke me. They definitely did not let me down; the movie is so good. Then it got to the end, and I felt like a part of me died, and I needed at least six shots to feel okay again, but damn it was good.
Jack: Obviously by knowing stuff from the comics, I knew what was going to happen, but I just wasn’t ready for it.
Tesla: I knew going in something would happen with it being his last movie as Wolverine, but it was still hard to watch.
Jack: In my opinion, Dafne Keen, who played X-23, was absolutely fantastic. She definitely had a great performance in this film.
Tesla: Yeah, I literally reacted the same way Hugh Jackman did when it turned out she could talk. Over the first half of the movie, she just screams and grunts, so I didn’t know if she had any dialogue until she did speak. I thought it was cool that Jackman played not only Logan, but X-24 as well. It’s almost symbolic in a way he fought his younger self.
Jack: I thought it was definitely interesting, but I would have never seen that coming. I was hoping that they’d go with Sabertooth or something, but it was definitely a big plot twist from what was expected. I think one of the biggest critiques I had was the fact that they don’t really go in and explain both the death of the mutants or Professor X’s Manchester incident.
Tesla: I was curious about the death of the mutants, but as far as Professor X, I think it implied that his “seizures” killed a lot of people. I think it was probably his first really bad seizure and that’s why he ended up on the run with Logan.
Jack: That was probably the case. Appearance wise, I thought it was beautifully done. The mix of both practical and graphic visual effects was amazing and seemed to blend together perfectly.
Tesla: Agreed, also Logan looks great for being over 100 years old. He was born in the late 1880s and died in 2025, so for an old man, he looked pretty damn good.
Jack: Do you have any criticism of the movie?
Tesla: Honestly, I felt like they could have been more creative with some of the fight scenes. I get that Logan is in bad shape, but he kind of got it handed to him frequently.
Jack: While that’s true, it was interesting to see her use the blade in her foot.
Tesla: That was awesome. I find it interesting that they have the same number of blades. Logan has three in each hand, while X-23 has two in each hand and one in each foot. I think everyone was at that moment as impressed as Logan looked.
Jack: Overall, I think I’d give the movie a solid nine out of 10.
Tesla: Personally, I’d give it probably 9.5/10. The movie was wonderful, it broke me, but was completely and utterly worth it.
