All good things must come to an end at some point and time. This was unfortunately the case for the Lady Grizzlies on Monday, March 6. The Butler women’s basketball team took on the Lady Tigers from Cowley County Community College in Hartman Arena in Park City in the second round of the Region 6 tournament. The Lady Grizzlies were placed as the 3rd seed taking on the 6th seed in a third game between the two teams. Butler this time around was unsuccessful as they were defeated by Cowley 84-77 in a evenly matched contest.

The first quarter looked good for the Lady Grizzlies as Dakota Vann helped the team get an early lead of 13-12 at the end of the first. In the second quarter the game went back and forth and the lead changed four times until end of the quarter when Cowley hit 4 threes and went up 34-27 at halftime.

The second half was just as good as the first as Butler opened up the half on a 10-3 run to tie the game at 37. The rest of the third quarter went back and forth as Cowley took a 53-50 lead. In the final quarter Butler pulled within two with 2:27 left in the game. However, that’s as close as the team could get to the Lady Tigers. Cowley knocked in their free throws to finally push the score up to 7 for a 84-77 victory.

Sophomore Kendriana Washington led the Grizzlies with 21 points and nine rebounds, while Dakota Vann finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Raven Prince added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Butler shot 53 percent from the floor but the difference between this game and the two prior games this year was the three ball. Cowley was able to make 16 out of 35 threes in the contest and that was the overall difference maker in the game.

Some positive news for this Lady Grizzlies team was the all conference honors. Four Sophomores for Butler were named to the Kansas Jayhawk Conference team. Dakota Vann who led the team in scoring blocks and steals this year made the first team all conference. Raven Prince, Kyeria Hannah, and Kendriana Washington all were able to make the second team all Jayhawk Conference team as well.

The season may be over for the Lady Grizzlies, but look for the team to be very competitive next year.
