Baseball drops three of four games at home to Garden City

The Butler Grizzlies baseball team fell behind early and could not come back in a 6-2 loss to Garden City on Saturday, March 18. Garden City scored on a single by Jesse Gonzales and a double by Alex Eskridge in the second inning. Garden City captured the lead in the second. Jesse Gonzales singled on the first pitch at the bat in the second inning, scoring one run. Garden City scored three runs in the third inning.

The big inning for Garden City came thanks to a home run by Alex Nielsen, a home run by Billy Clark and a home run by Ty Barclay.

Connor Burns earned the win for Garden City. He pitched seven innings, allowing two runs, seven hits, striking out 12 and walking zero. Cody Bush took the loss for Butler. He went four innings, allowing six runs, ten hits, striking out three and walking zero.

Butler watched the game slip away early and could not recover in an 8-4 loss to Garden City in the second game on Saturday. Garden City scored on a home run by Clint Allen in the first inning, a double by Ty Lightley in the second inning and a triple by Alex Eskridge in the second inning. Butler lost despite out-hitting Garden City 11 to eight.

Garden City took an early lead in the first inning. Allen drove in two when he homered in the first inning. Danny Weagle earned the win for Garden City. He tossed three innings, allowing two runs, three hits and walking one. Nick Ulmer recorded the last eight outs to earn the save for Garden City. Drake Norton took the loss for Butler. He threw four and a third innings, allowing six runs, six hits and striking out four. Noah Foreman started the game for Garden City. He pitched two innings, giving up zero runs, one hit and striking out one.

On the doubleheader on Sunday, Butler was able to beat Garden City in the first game, winning 11-10. Corey Murphy got the win for Butler, going four innings, allowing 10 hits and nine runs, six of them earned and striking out two.

On the second game Butler was not able to repeat the same magic as the first game as they lost to Garden City 26-11.

Garden City used seven pitchers in the nine inning game. Butler used eight pitchers.
On Friday, March 24, Butler was on the road against Hutchinson and they were not able to beat them. Butler fell to Hutchinson by a score of 8-3. Both starters from each side were able to pitch deep in the game but both allowed plenty of runs to be pulled for relievers.

Butler then split with Hutchinson in the double header on Sunday, March 26. Butler won the first game 20-8 and then lost the second game 9-2.

Butler ended their games on the road with another loss to Hutchinson on Monday, March 27, 16-6.

Butler began a stretch of five home games beginning on Saturday, April 1, starting with Pratt.
