Butler Community College and Ottawa University have partnered to bring a cost effective opportunity to the Andover campus beginning in the fall of 2017. Next semester, students who have completed an associate’s of science degree for business administration will be able to take classes in Andover for a bachelor’s in business administration with a focus in marketing.

“It’s exciting to be able to be with the students when we take the next step,” said Jared McGinley, a professor of business said in a recent press interview.

Ottawa is a private university in the Kansas City, Kan., with a prestigious and historic program for business. The university is 150 years old and takes pride in its various paths of study. The mission statement of their business school, Angell Snyder School of Business, is “to produce impact players who are broadly educated, skilled in key business disciplines, highly principled and ready to lead.”

Ottawa first began visiting Butler in the spring of 2016 to introduce the plans of organizing a partnership for business. The format of the program is set up to be convenient for individuals already in the work force.

“Typically people will find work after receiving their associate’s,” Rhonda Thomas, an assistant professor of business, said. “The fact that this benefits those already working individuals is always a plus.”

Students will meet at the Andover campus one night a week from six to 10 p.m. Each class meets with a professor for two hours a week for eight weeks and online for the same amount of time. By following this method, students will complete a two year process together completing four classes per semester.

Once a student receives their associate’s, one will take five more credits at the associate’s level before transferring to being Ottawa students to take bachelor level courses.
Ottawa representatives will hold a celebration event in the near future.

“We are in the process of arranging a time to hold the celebration event for the partnership between Butler and Ottawa,” said Brett Mendez, senior community development executive.    “We are hoping to have members of our leadership on campus for the event.”

While the date has not been released for the event, be sure to make it to the celebration to receive more information about the partnership.
