Butler Lantern

Clarification from April 25 issue

Clarification: Upon further review of an issue of the Butler Lantern, published Tuesday, April 25, an infographic on page two portrayed information incorrectly. During editing, “and” was removed from the heading “Tuition Fee Increases.” This changed the definition of fees in the chart titles representing “Tuition and Student Fees” to simply “Fees.” The information in the charts represent the values determined by tuition and fees, not just student fees. Secondly, the chart titled “Total Increase in Fees,” depicting the change of price in percentage over a course of five years, was incorrectly calculated. The information was compiled by adding up the changes year by year, resulting in incorrect final values. Finally, the 44.4 percent explanation in the bottom right corner of the infographic is inaccurate and should have not been included. In a misunderstanding, the formerly mentioned totals were added up, equating to the incorrect 44.4 percent. This is inaccurate, since four different payment costs cannot be comingled into a single percentage. The Butler Lantern staff apologizes for this misunderstanding, as we pride ourselves on producing accurate, tasteful and informative material for our biweekly paper. From here on out, we will be sure that the information we distribute will be 100 percent accurate.
