With the amazing reputation of Butler Headliners, you may be wondering where are they now?
Seven former Butler students are at Disney World performing as main characters such as Mickey Mouse, Cinderella, Prince Charming, Nemo, the turtle in “Nemo” and Disney’s Dapper Dans.
“One Headliner was on ‘Jimmy Fallon’ last week singing,” Professor Valerie Mack. “Several are in the SmorgasChorus and the chorus and several of the quartets are headed to international barbershop competition next July in Las Vegas.”
Headliners is a mixed group with 32 singers, and they perform throughout the year at various local and state events.
Cam Bedell has some of his original songs doing well on iTunes and in Nashville, Tennessee, on the verge of striking it big. Zach Hawthorne was in the Producers Broadway tour and lives in New York City, New York.
But the Headliners are not limited to vocals, there are several successful dance studios run by former students. Katie Riggs has been the star performer on a cruise ship for 10 years now.
Several have passed on their love for music by becoming teachers. Kristina Sims started the all-city show choir, Flight, and they have competed nationally and are making a name for themselves.
Yet the list could go on and on, but now our focus goes to Cassie Lohmeyer, who is originally from Benton and graduated from Circle High School.
She then furthered her education here at Butler with a vocal music scholarship and performed in Butler Headliners.
“In the midst of my college career, I realized just how important one scholarship could be,” Lohmeyer said. “I decided to become involved in the Miss America Organization when I heard about the over $45 million in scholarships given out annually.”
While attending Wichita State University, Lohmeyer began her pageant career. At the young age of 22, Lohmeyer uses her platform for good, being involved in many organizations.
“I have been able to promote my platform ‘Coming Home: Bringing Awareness to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder’ while also being involved in the Children’s Miracle Network and other various organizations,” Lohmeyer said.
Lohmeyer shows support for the men and women serving our country by officially having her platform title as “A Voice for Our Veterans: Serving Those Who Have Served.”
In 2016, she was the First Runner Up in Miss Kansas and is making a difference in this state and world.
“I’m definitely in support of women’s equality,” Lohmeyer said. “The fact that we come in the United States of America where everybody has freedom of speech is just excellent.”
