Butler Community College in El Dorado is currently investigating a Title IX complaint.
Under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972: No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.
Under the Title IX statute, schools are legally obligated to respond and resolve hostile educational environments. Failure to do so is a violation that means a school could risk losing its federal funding.
In an official statement, Butler’s Director of Public Relations Kelly Snedden said the school is aware of the incident and are working with the local authorities. Once the college and the authorities have all the facts, they will make appropriate disciplinary action based on the established Title IX and Student code of Conduct Policies.
The Butler Lantern will continue providing any and all information when it is available.
