Struggling in your classes? Butler Community College offers free tutoring for a variety of subjects.

Getting a tutor is as easy as walking into the Gayle Krause Learning Lab, They will match someone with the appropriate tutor. They have both student tutors and staff tutors. Consisting of approximately 13 student tutors and five to six staff tutors.

To be a tutor one has to maintain a 3.0 GPA and enroll in at least 12 credit hours. There is time involved in being a tutor and that is just 15 hours a week.

“It’s not really working because we all need the knowledge,” International student, tutor and sophomore Jessica Muhokolo said. “We all need that knowledge.”

Tutoring is offered for most general education classes. If the center does not offer tutoring for the class that a student is needing help in, there is also online tutoring. A student can access NetTutor, an online tutoring service, through Canvas for just about every class.

In addition to these services, Hawkes is an online program that is used by the math department. Hawkes has a built-in tutoring system. When you click on the “Tutor” button, it will gives users different options. It will let users choose whether they want to relearn it, take it step-by-step, give you a hint or give them the solution. A student can also receive face-to-face tutoring at the Math Lab in the 1500 Building in Room 126.

If students are in need of help with writing their essays, they also have access to the Online Writing Lab (OWL), an online program that students can use to get feedback on their writing. This service can also be accessed through Canvas, and all one must do is enter their work and they should receive feedback within 48 hours. The OWL is staffed by some full-time English faculty at Butler.

A student can visit the Tutoring Lab to work on homework or study, and computers are available for students and tutors to use. Associate Professor of English Andrea McCaffree-Wallace is in charge of the OWL.

“To take advantage of tutoring, students just have to walk-in and our tutors will do our best to try and help,” Academic Success Coach and Coordinator of Tutoring Crystal Aluko said.

On the El Dorado campus, the Tutoring Center is located in the 1500 building in Room 124 and on the Andover campus, it can be found in the 5000 building in Room 202U.
