Volleyball digs up three wins

The Grizzlies topped Garden City to top off a busy four-day game-week for Butler Volleyball.

The Grizzlies topped Garden City 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 28-26) on Monday, Sept. 11.

The Grizzlies trailed behind with the score being (19-21), Bernard had three points in a row leading them back to victory.

“We’re continue to grow as a team,” Volleyball Head Coach Rick Younger said.

The Grizzlies traveled to McCook, Nebraska for a weekend tournament. It started with a 3-2 loss to McCook (20-25, 25-21, 21-25, 26-28 13-15).

“The tournament was grueling,” Younger said. “We wanted to play more players than we did.”

Sophomore Brooke Fender led the game with 17 kills, and they took a win against North Platte, (25-21, 25-21, 19-25). Bernard again led with 11 kills, followed by Fender with 10 kills.

Butler capped the tournament with a win against Southeast Nebraska 3-1 (25-21, 25-15, 24-26, 25-19).

Fender again set the pace with 12 kills and 18 digs.

Butler lost against Highland Community College (21-25, 19-25, 24-26).

“Jon [Bingesser] has Highland going in the right direction,” Younger said.

On Monday, Sept. 18, they played at home, against Friends University JV at 6:30 p.m.
