‘This Week in El Dorado:’ Asian Buffet tastes pleasantly surprising

When customers walk into the Golden Asian Buffet, there is a koi pond that can be seen immediately. The pond gives a good first impression, and the food that follows is equally as appealing. Marcus Smith

In the town of El Dorado, home of one of Butler Community College’s campuses, there is not much of a limit of places that one could eat at. All one has to do is drive down Central Avenue, and there will be something that will sound or smell delicious. There are many fast food restaurants such as McDonald’s, Sonic, Taco Bell, Freddy’s and many more. If you are craving some pizza, you could go to Pizza Hut, Gambino’s Pizza or Domino’s Pizza.

One restaurant that I have particularly heard controversy over is the Golden Asian Buffet, which located at 2350 W. Central Avenue. Some people have said that they really love it, and some have not. Given the diverse commentary, I decided to try it myself.

When one thinks of a buffet, gross and unsanitary conditions come to mind. While eating there, I never once thought that it was gross or unsanitary. The buffet seemed to be kept clean, with not much of it making me think otherwise. The only time I thought “that’s gross” was at the sushi bar because of the two tongs sitting in the gross water that are used to grab the sushi.

The food there was also very good for the most part. The Golden Asian Buffet also did a good job of keeping the food warm. If you went and tried one thing and really liked it, there will probably be more when you go back. They seemed to keep the buffet full, at least from what I noticed.

I tried almost one of everything, from the many different kinds of chicken, even the sushi. The teriyaki chicken was probably the best thing. Chicken on a stick may seem gross to a lot of people, but if you try it, I am sure you will not regret it. It had great flavor, just as good as teriyaki chicken you might get at an expensive Chinese restaurant. There was one piece of the chicken that I had that was small and hard as rock, but that was not a problem because I just went back to get more.

The Lo Mein was also a dish that I thought was very good, so if you go, you will have to make sure to put some of that on your plate. It had a perfect amount amount of sliced onions in it, with not an overpowering amount and also not an almost unnoticeable amount.

There were of course a few things that I did not like as well. I had never tried sushi, so I figured that since it was already paid for, this would be a perfect time to try it. After the first piece of sushi that I ate, I thought that it might be alright. After my next bite though, I immediately regretted ever putting it on my plate. For me, it was the texture of the rotten fish that got me and made me dislike it so much.

Overall, the Golden Asian Buffet was a great, inexpensive restaurant that everyone in El Dorado should try. Even though it had some things that I did not like, that does not mean that you will not like it.
