Since starting college at Butler, I have begun to notice just how much the professors like to talk about politics. I personally love politics, but I do not necessarily want to talk about it at 8 a.m. I did not sign up for the class to hear about your political views.
Normally, it would not be much of a problem for me to hear the professors talking about their political views, but we usually have differing views. Shocker, right?? All college professors have the same political views? Nah.
It gets quite old to be in class minding my own business, and then all of the sudden, the professor gives a lesson that just so happens to tie into bashing the president. Can you not just give the lesson? Pick something else to teach it with?
Most college students are paying good money to take the classes, so unless it is a class discussion or a political science class, the bashing of others’ political views should be kept to a minimum.
Also, I have noticed that a lot of the time professors will begin by saying that they are not trying to influence our views, but it comes off that way when their opinions are being expressed over and over. Does that not mean that you think we are wrong for having the opinions that we do?
That being said, I really like politics, but you should be using a position as a professor to keep us informed on the news if you wish; however, you should not use it to push a liberal agenda.
Going to college is actually a really good time to expand our minds and beliefs and to learn to be open about new opinions, but if you have already expressed specific opinions once, you probably should not do it repeatedly. After that, it just becomes annoying.
I have also noticed that when talking about politics today nobody wants to be positive. It’s all about telling us what the government is doing wrong instead of reminding us to think about what is going right. College is hard enough without the professors bringing more negativity into the day.
All I am really saying is that if we want an opinion, we will ask. For some of us, it’s only our first year college, so you should take your time when shoving your political views down our throats. There is still time next year for that too.
