The two most popular living options for students enrolled at Butler are the dorms and Villas. The dorms are located on the Butler campus similar to other colleges. The Villas, however, are located across the street from the campus.
The Villas seem to get a bad reputation depending on the student, but there are some that enjoy living in the Villas contrary to the belief of others.
“I do like living in the Villas,” freshman Trey McNemee said. “My roommates are really cool people, and I like how I can have my own little separate room, so that if I need to get away from people, I have my own space.”
While some of the students at the Villas enjoy the privacy that they would not normally receive at the dorms, other students enjoy the opportunity to meet and make friends with the other people living there.
“Our entire floor is really close, so we all hang out together,” freshman Tayler VaNatta said.
Much like those living in the villas, it seems as those living in the dorms are still happy with their decision to live there.
“It is my first year, and I was told by a lot of people that you have to live in the dorms your first year,” freshman Cole Hutchcroft said. “I had no clue why, but I listened to them, and I’m glad I did.”
Just like the problems that would occur in almost any place one chooses to live, there are surely problems in the dorms and Villas as well.
“The only downside is that your roommate is always in there, and you never really get any privacy, but it’s not that big of a deal,” freshman Beau Brecheisen said.
With the campus having Wi-Fi issues, that has also seemed to present problems for those living in the dorms.
“I have not found any problem with the dorm room itself, but the internet has been a major problem,” Hutchcroft said. “Sometimes it’s so bad that I can’t get on Butler’s home page to do homework.”
Doing research on the dorms and Villas would probably benefit incoming freshmen the most. For the most part, it is just a matter of opinion as to which decision is better. I, for one, chose to live in the Villas because there, you all get your own rooms. In the dorms, both students live in the same room with little to no privacy.
Other than the dorms and Villas, there are on campus apartments that unlike the dorms, do not require the student to get the meal plan. So if dorm rooms and apartment buildings do not sound appealing, there is an alternative.
