Thanksgiving is the one holiday where families get together with the ones they love and celebrate everything they are thankful for in life, whether it is friends, family or the roof over their heads.

Many Butler students go home for the Thanksgiving holiday to spend time with their families over the five day break. Sometimes it is harder for some students to go home who live out of state or internationally.

Some students, who live out of state, won’t be going home for the holiday because it is too far away and/or the break may not be long enough for travel. Mario Thomas, from Alabama, will stay in the Villas over the Thanksgiving break because the break is too short. Thomas has arranged to celebrate the holiday elsewhere.

“I plan on heading up to Lawrence to spend Thanksgiving with my teammate’s family,“ sophomore Mario Thomas said.

Usually the Operational Staff is hosting their Annual Thanksgiving Pie Sale, which is held on both the El Dorado and Andover. In El Dorado, the pie sale will be held in the 200 building by the Secretarial Center and the 1500 Building lobby. In Andover, the sale will be held in the 5000 building, and both sales will be held on Monday, Nov. 20 and Tuesday, Nov. 21 until the pies are sold out.

Cherry, apple, pecan and pumpkin pies are available in the sale. All pies are $12 except for the pecan pie, which will cost $15. Pre-orders can be made starting Wednesday, Nov. 1 through Tuesday, Nov. 14. Pies can be picked up on Monday, Nov. 20.

A bake sale, which features an assortment of snacks, will cost around $1 to $2. These will be available at the same time as the pie sale.

While the Operational Staff is helping with the Pie Sale, faculty and administration is helping with the bake sale.

“We are asking for pie ingredient donations,” Manager of Secretarial Center Amy Kerschner said. “…cans of cherry, pumpkin and apple pie filling or pecans. The more we get donated, the more profit that will go to our book scholarship fund.”
