“Hard work yields great rewards,” Performing arts major Seth Knowles said.

Knowles is an incredibly talented performer in the theater/ performance arts department at Butler. Entering his second year here, Knowles already has five performances under his belt and, currently working on another.

While Knowles, an El Dorado native, continues to gain experience here, his passion for the art started when he was in middle school.

“I was part of a play in middle school, and after that I was hooked,” Knowles said.

During his years at El Dorado High school, Knowles was a part of all but one play. Here his passion for performing definably shown as his drama director encouraged him to attend Butler for performing arts.

“The drama director was a close friend of Mr. (Bob) Peterson and recommended I try out,” Knowles said. “After the audition, Mr. Peterson met with me and said he would love if I would work for him.”

During his first year at Butler, Knowles focused on classes teaching him the performing side of theater, now he is learning more “behind the scenes” classes such as stage craft and makeup.

Last semester, Knowles landed a lead role as Charlie in the play “Where’s Charlie.” Here he exploded in an electrifying performance as a boy courting a date all the while impersonating his visiting aunt.

“It was a really fun experience, especially since I got to cross dress while performing since I was switching between Charlie and his aunt,” Knowles said.

His fellow cast mates also notice his work ethic and dedication to the craft. In an interview with alumni Hunter Fullhart, Knowles had nothing but praise from his cast mate.

“Seth is the kind of guy that no matter what kind of day you had, he would always make rehearsal enjoyable on and offstage,” Fullhart said. “His energy level is constantly high regardless of how stressed he is, how sick he may be feeling or how physically exhausted he may be. He’s dedicated to his craft and you can see it.”

Knowles is preparing for the theater department’s next show “Frankenstein: A New Musical,” which he describes as incredibly tragic. The show will open Thursday, Nov. 16 and Friday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Nov 18 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Patrons can purchase tickets at the Box Office for “Frankenstein: A New Musical” on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
