Butler’s 8-Man roster take down Indy Pirates

The Grizzlies picked up their 10th win on the season with a 65-58 road victory in Independence on Saturday, Feb 3.

Freshmen Adrian Moore and Russell Smith led the Grizzlies in scoring, both with 16 points. Sophomore Ketarrious Boucham added 14 points. The Grizzlies improved to 5-4 on the road this season.

The Grizzlies, who led by as much as 13 points in the second half, were also shorthanded in the game with eight players, compared to Indy’s 16, as Justin Criddle stayed in El Dorado with the flu.

Butler took a 13-10 lead midway through the first and also took 33-23 lead at half time. The Grizzlies led by as many as 11 in the first half after sophomore Jared Armstrong hit two free throws with 2:28 left.

Butler extended its lead to 13 with 15:40 remaining when Moore went 1-2 from the foul line for a 40-27 lead.

Independence rallied back within 6 at 47-41 by the second half media timeout. Butler then put the lead back at 11, 59-48, with a Moore lay-in on a fast break with 3:53 left in the game.

In the second half, Butler only made eight field goals, but went 15-of-19 from the foul line.

Adrian Moore matched his season-high of 16 points, while Smith just missed a double-double, raking up 16 points and nine rebounds. Indy was led by DeAnthony McCallum, who led all scorers with 27 points and went 9-of-13 from the field.
