Baseball improves over week

Butler Grizzlies baseball has begun. They have had a great start with their spring seasons, and they have taken a double-header victory over the Highland game with a 10-0 win and the second game an 8-6, victory on Tuesday, Feb. 6.
Butler had two players hitting doubles, with freshmen Javier Pena and Mason Goade in the first game.
Sophomores Garrett Chalker and Alex Brough led off with consecutive singles, then a bunt by Goade moved both runners into a scoring.
In the second game, Butler had a double by sophomore Jackson Soule and a triple by Pena.
Both teams scored a run in the second inning. Butler took the lead when Goade scored on a groundout.
Butler added two more runs with Goade having a double steal, as freshman Keone Givens stole home.
Sophomore pitcher Dallas Armstrong came in for the fourth inning and earned the win.
On Tuesday, Feb. 13, the Butler Grizzlies baseball team took a doubleheader win against McPherson JV in El Dorado.
Butler took a lead with three home runs from Pena, sophomore Conner Hurst and Chalker to win the game 11 to 1.
Butler also won the second game with three home runs from Pena, Hurst and freshman Cade Marrow, and the final score was 16 to 3.
On Thursday, Feb. 15, the Butler Grizzlies traveled to Coffeyville with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Coffeyville took the lead and won, 18-5. Butler had doubles by Givens and Soule. In the second game, Butler lost, 9-5.
On Sunday, Feb. 18, Butler played Coffeyville at home with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and won twice. In the first game, Butler took a victory 4 to 1. Highlights included two base hits by Hurst and a home run by freshman Patrick Bethea. In the second game, Butler won 21-7.
Butler had three two-base hits by Givens, Hurst and Soule and also had three home runs, two by Hurst and one by freshman Tanyon Schafer.
