“#PressForProgress” is the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day, which is inspired by the statistics from the World Economic Forum’s 2017 Global Gender Gap Report. It states that gender parity, or the state or condition of being equal, especially regarding status or pay, is nearly 200 years away. The International Women’s Day (IWD) website explains that there has never been a more important time to keep motivated and #PressForProgress. This movement uses other equality-driven movements such as #MeToo and #TimesUp to fuel their ideas. The founders of the IWD website admit that gender parity will not happen overnight; however, across the world, women are making positive gains day by day. Plus, there is indeed a very strong and growing global movement of advocacy, activism and support. International Women’s Day is not country, group or organization specific. The day belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. The goal of IWD is to remember the sacrifices women have made for our rights, along with celebrating what it means to be a woman.
