Q: How does El Dorado, Kansas differ from Memphis, Tennessee?
“In Memphis, we got buildings. I’m not used to just flat. There’s always something going on.”
Q: How is basketball coaching and competition different here?
“The coaching is kind (of) different. Playing basketball in Memphis was more intense. It doesn’t feel like it used to [in high school].”
Q: Does having diverse coaches help you as a student athlete?
“It helps. With having (Assistant) Coach Cameron (Parker) being younger than Coach (Bryan) Miller, it helps a lot. He can relate to us, (and) he knows how it feels to be yelled at. He also played for Coach Miller, so he can relate.”
Q: What is something from/about Memphis, Tennessee that you are proud of?
“There’s a lot to be proud of. We got an NBA team, the Elvis Presley Museum (and) the Lorraine Hotel. There’s a lot I can be proud of.”
Q: Would you say you are treated differently by coaches due to you race?
“No. I’m the same as everyone else on the team. I’m a basketball player, (and) I’m a student athlete, so I get treated the same. The coaches see us all the same. We look at each other as brothers, (and the coaches) see us as sons.”
