Not a whole lot has changed for the Butler Grizzlies’ softball team, as their win streak has now climbed to 22 games. The main highlight of this past week was the pitching. Butler pitching has collected four shutouts since Saturday, March 31, and made things easier for the offense.

They played Barton on Saturday, March 31, and had their first of the four aforementioned shutouts against them. They won the first game of the double-header, 15-0, and had another well-rounded win in the second game, winning 11-3.

The team was on the road on Monday, April 2, and beat Seward County 3-0 in the first game of that double-header, and also won the second game in the double-header, 11-5. Some highlights from those games featured a complete game shutout for sophomore pitcher Celina Sullivan. She struck out 13 in the game, which was a career high for her. Sophomore Kenzie Young was the player to watch in the second game, as she hit two home runs to help propel Butler to the win.

The pitching was on full display in the games played on Wednesday, April 4, with Butler pitching giving up a grand total of 0 runs in both games against Garden City. Sullivan starred once again in the first game of the double-header, throwing six shutout innings, and sophomore Maddie Siemer had a complete game shutout, which made it easy for Butler to collect two more wins. The finals of those games were 7-0 and 8-0 respectively.
It was the offense’s turn to shine when they played Northern Oklahoma – Tonkawa on Sunday, April 8, as the offense combined to score 31 runs in the double-header. Butler scored 19 runs in the first game, led by freshman Brianna Robinson, who hit two runs leading the Grizzlies to the win. She also had seven RBIs in that game. Butler again had plenty of offense in the second game, winning that game 12-4. Robinson added yet another home run in that game as well, giving her three home runs in the two games against Northern Oklahoma – Tonkawa.

The Grizzlies continued their road trip against Northwest Kansas Technical College on Tuesday, April 10.

Sophomore pitcher Celina Sullivan goes to throw out a runner at first base on Wednesday, April 4, at East Park against Garden City. The Grizzlies beat Garden City 7-0 and 8-0 in the double-header. Ryan Paris
