Reimagined classics. Intricate creations. Chef’s Table, a Netflix show featuring all varieties of chefs is back for season four, titled Pastry. In this season, the show focuses on four different pastry chefs from varying backgrounds.

The first episode centers on Christina Tosi, the chef, founder and owner of Milk Bar in New York, who creates simple and classic desserts, but with her own twists. Hits at her restaurant include crack pie and several cereal milk based items.

The second episode features Corrado Assenza, owner of Caffe Sicilia in Noto, Italy. An important part of his café is in the almonds he uses, a not widely produced variety called the Romana almond. These are featured in the almond granita he makes.

The third episode follows Jordi Roca, part of the trio that owns and works at El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Spain. He and his brothers Joan and Josep each specialize in one part of the restaurant. Jordi produces unique and intricate desserts such as “Trip to Havana” and “The Breathing Dessert”.

The fourth episode looks at Will Goldfarb, a New Yorker currently living in Bali, Indonesia. His creations are served in Room 4 Dessert, a restaurant dedicated to a dessert-only menu. In his early years, his food was not popular because of his creativity and edginess. Now, that is a part of what makes his food truly unique, along with the fact that he has gravitated more towards local ingredients.

A common feature throughout the series has been the telling of stories through food and the amazing cinematography that goes with it, and it has remained in this season. One of the best parts of the show is when the dishes are shown one after the other, with proud music accompanying them. This is especially amazing this season, because each dessert is somewhat similar, but entirely different at the same time, and it is highlighted through this part.

This is not the show most people would expect college students to watch, but it is still easily admirable. This is also a good show to watch with family, as each generation tends to have a different view of the content and this sparks interesting conversation.

Chef’s Table has been amazing, and the new season does not disappoint. The only bad part is that it’s virtually impossible to not snack on something sweet while watching. I would recommend this show for anyone who loves great food, great cinematography or great music. 10/10
