Butler softball continues to win games, as their win streak has now climbed up to 32 games. They look to sustain that success heading into their final stretch of games in the regular season.
Their pitching has proven to be a big factor in their success of late. Dating back to Wednesday, April 11, the pitching staff has only given up 15 runs, including four shutouts in that time. The offense has kept their hot hitting going as well, scoring 92 runs in that same span.
On Wednesday, April 11, the Grizzlies played Colby on the road, and having no issues taking both games of that double-header, winning 8-0 and 3-0 in those games. The first game featured a complete shutout thrown by sophomore pitcher Celina Sullivan. Game two featured five shutout innings by sophomore pitcher Maddie Siemer.
The Grizzlies had a well-rounded victory in the first game of the double-header against Dodge City, on Sunday, April 15, winning 17-0. Some of the main highlights in that game including another great performance by Sullivan, throwing three shutout innings, bringing her consecutive streak of shutout innings to 33. Head Coach Doug Chance decided to take her out and give her some well deserved rest, as the score was 13-0 at the time. The Grizzlies won the second game 17-7, with the first win marking the 600th career win for Coach Chance.
The offense continued to dominate at the plate on Monday, April 16, scoring a total of 29 runs against Barton. Freshman Brianna Robinson hit three home runs in the double-header, which contributed greatly to the dominant performance by the Grizzlies.
After the Grizzlies’ wins against Pratt, they clinched their 14th straight Jayhawk West title. The pitching only gave up one run in those games, helping lead Butler to the 8-0, and 10-1 wins. Robinson continued to swing a hot bat in those games as she collected two more home runs in the first game of the double-header. Sophomores Kenzie Young, Alexis Reed, Reagan Wilson, as well as pitcher Sullivan hit home runs in the second game, en route to the victory.
The Grizzlies were again victorious against Seward County on Friday, April 20, winning both of those games 9-0 and 4-3.
The Grizzlies win streak was snapped on Tuesday, April 24, as they lost to Cowley County 13-11 in the first game in a slug fest. However, they turned things around in the second game, winning 8-5.
The Grizzlies finished the regular season with a 44-4 record.
