McGrizzles, a situational comedy that is made up of different skits, is returning to Butler Community College on Wednesday, May 9, airing on BCC 20, Cox 20 or YouTube at Butler Student Media. The show, produced by the Mass Communications department, will return after nearly a four year hiatus.
“McGrizzles is a comedy skit program that we are trying to currently bring back,” Zach Schwarzenberger, the head writer, said. “This semester will be the first time in a few years we have done it, and it is kind of open to the entire radio {and} T.V. classes. Really anyone who wants to pitch in and create comedy skits because typically we do more traditional news style broadcast but we think it’s a little more fun be able to let everyone kind of experiment and just try new things with the camera.”
Professor of Mass Communications Keith West spoke of how the idea for McGrizzles came about.
“This is a great for people who wants to go for journalism, news or something like that, and it teaches them production skill regardless where they want to go,” West said. “But what about those who want to go into entertainment, comedy, situational comedy {and} dramas? So, a number of years when I got here, a student came to me and said ‘we need an outlet.’ So I thought we could do a situational comedy, but you either do a full 30 minutes show or you fail and then I thought, let’s do a skit comedy show instead of having to be responsible for either 30 minutes or nothing. We could do like a 60 second fake commercial, and then add to it with a two-minute skit or add a three-minute skit or put all this stuff together like Campus Edge. And that way it’s more likely we’ll have a 30 minute finished project at the end of the semester.”
Freshman Elijah Pykiet, the executive producer of McGrizzles, f and Schwarzenberger both have experience with comedy skits on their YouTube channels and with high school experiences. They both have high hopes for a “McGrizzle return.”
