Butler volleyball hosted Seward County on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at home. The Grizzlies fell to the Saints in three sets, (25-13, Seward), (25-13, Seward), (25-19, Seward). Butler put up a great defensive effort against Seward with their hustle and blocks. All the Butler volleyball players contributed greatly to put up points but Sewards serves and spikes are what sent them to the win.
“I think we didn’t pass well, and we need to get better at it.” Freshman Amalie Rupertova said. “We did really good things in defense and coach was happy about that. We started to get better at the end of the match, but we just need to be good from beginning to the end of it”.
In a rival volleyball match-up against Hutchinson Community College here Wednesday, Sept. 19, Butler fell short in there three sets (25-23, Hutch), (25-14, Hutch), (25-22, Hutch). Freshman setter Sydney Scanlon had 18 assists and one dig. Sophomore middle hitter Claudia Hess had five kills and three blocks.
“We seemed to start off fairly strong on most games, but then we didn’t carry that through in the entire match which was a little frustrating,” Hess said. “We need to get more consistent about staying strong the entire match throughout and then not letting our guard down when we are three points ahead. We need to be consistent and bring it each game, playing every point like it’s the last point of the game.”
Over the weekend, the Grizzlies took a trip to Colby, to play the Trojans, who are 15-1 overall. The women made a valiant effort, but unfortunately fell to Colby in four sets (25-19, Colby), (25-19, Butler), (25-11, Colby), (25-18, Colby). Helping to add points for the team was Klausmeyer with eight kills and 3 blocks, Scanlon with 26 assists, 10 digs and two kills, Amalie Rupertova with six kills, two blocks and one ace and Bishop with six kills, three aces and one block.
In their most recent matchup on Monday Sept. 24, the women’s team took on Barton Community College. Butler lost in three sets to the Cougars (25-20, Barton), (25-19, Barton), (25-23, Barton). Each game the Grizzlies fought hard, but ended up coming up short. The best set they had was their third one, and it was a nail biter. For most of the set they were within one or two points whether they were leading or behind.
“Honestly, this was a game that we should have won,” Klausmeyer said. “We just had too many passing errors throughout the match.”
