The most beautiful smile I ever saw, was the smile of a blond girl I saw walking around the mall.
The way her hair bounced as she walked, the sun light from the sky lights glimmered against her silky waves. I knew I had to have her smile, it had to be mine. I held onto my bag tightly as I walked behind her from a distance. She never noticed me, I had been following her since the moment I saw her walk out of the yogurt shop. I picked her empty yogurt bowl out of the trash, the name scribbled across was ‘Dylan’, what an amazing name.
“Dylan,” I called from behind her.
She turned around and glanced back before turning away.
How dare she ignore me, I loved her and she ignored me. I crumple the bowl I held in my fist and that was when
I decided she would never ignore me again.
I followed her home, she lived on a nice street in a nice neighborhood. Soon she would live with me in my basement.
I crept towards a window that had the light off, I knew she was alone because I had been sitting outside her house for five hours. Dylan only left the house once in that time period. I did not follow her for I wanted to go into her house and collect a sample of her DNA. Her hairbrush was full of long wavy strands that were just waiting for me to take.
Dylan came back from the library around nine, she had a large stack of books with her and Subway sandwich and a drink. I hope she enjoyed her food because waiting all these hours made me hungry. My feet and hands are shaking with anticipation for the plans I had made.
It was now almost midnight and I was getting antsy, this was going to be something she would never forget. Just like I could not forget the smile that graced her lips so lightly.
Next thing I knew I was laying on the floor and a bright light caused my eyes to snap open with such force that I thought I would pass out. I looked around and saw the white walls, floor, ceiling shining back at me with such a piercing white that I had to roll over. I tried to pull my hands out to help me roll over. I then realized that I was strapped inside of a straight jacket. ‘How could this be?’ I thought.
I was just waiting for Dylan, my true love, to come and live with me. Where is she? Who is she with? All these questions swarmed my head, I was becoming dizzy and I rolled over to the wall and sat up. The only window in the room was on the door, and it had bars over it. Where was I? What was happening?
“Time to take your medicine,” a nurse walked in with a small plastic cup full of pills and a plastic cup full of water.
“I don’t need medicine, who are you?”
“If you don’t take it then we will have someone hold you down so then you will take it.”
“Fine.” I took the pills and she left without another word.
Then the lights turned out. “Hello?” I called from my spot on the floor. I called out again struggling to stand up. The slot on the door closed and I was left in pitch black.
All I could think about was the smile, the smile that I took. The smile that I now remember I had in my house. I had lots of things at my house that I liked, like Dylan’s smile, Sophie’s hands, Jenna’s eyes, I had quite the collection. I smirked knowing that soon I would have the nurse’s eyes to add to my collection.
