For her first event since taking over the local book and novelty store, The Next Chapter, owner Errin Moore hosted Acoustic Night at the bookstore. The night featured Tyler Briscoe, a local musician, a food truck and The Next Chapter’s usual coffee, books and cats.
“It was a kickoff for all of the events coming up,” Moore said. “I want this to be kind of a community hub. I want students to come out, do some homework, enjoy some coffee and hang out with the cats.”
Briscoe lives in El Dorado and in the past has played at small venues in the area. He doubles as the worship leader on Sunday evenings at Late Night Church where his father is the pastor.
For Acoustic Night, Briscoe performed a combination of originals, worship music, and covers including a mashup of Khalid songs. He describes his original music as a mixture of country, Post Malone, Shawn Mendes and Khalid. Both Moore and Briscoe were impressed by the crowd that showed up for the event.
“I knew people were gonna show, you just gotta speak it into existence,” Briscoe said. “You gotta start to be great, but you don’t gotta be great to start.”
Noble House Express food truck served Hawaiian food with prices that ranged from $7 to $12. Attendees could also enjoy the bookstore’s regular coffee and snacks.
“I really liked the food at the food truck,” freshman mass communications major Sam Price said. “It’s been really cool. [It] definitely doesn’t feel like anything El Dorado has done before.”
Moore used Acoustic Night as a kickoff for the other events she has planned for The Next Chapter. These events include card making night on Monday, Oct. 29, the monthly Pinterest party on Monday, Nov. 5, soap making class on Saturday, Nov. 10 and a book signing on Saturday, Nov. 17. All events taking place at The Next Chapter can be found on its Facebook page, The Next Chapter Books and Novelties.
