Volleyball ends regular season on a four game losing skid

The women’s volleyball team headed to Barton Community College for their last game of the regular season. They came up short to Barton in four sets (25-18, Barton), (27-25, Butler), (25-23, Barton) and (25-14, Barton).

Butler finished the regular season 15-14 overall and 8-8 in the Jayhawk Conference. The Grizzlies will play in the Region VI next Wednesday.

The women’s volleyball team hosted Colby Community College at home Friday, Oct. 20. The Grizzlies fell to the Trojans in three straight sets (25-14, Colby), (26-24, Colby), (25-18, Colby). Freshman outside hitter Amalie Rupertova recorded 10 kills and seven digs. Freshman setter Sydney Scanlon had one kill, an impressive 18 service aces and six digs. Sophomore outside hitter Nia Bishop added four kills, one ace and nine digs.

“It was a very good learning experience, but inconsistency kills,” sophomore libero Beth Schulte.

On Friday, Oct. 19, the Grizzlies traveled to Seward County to take on the No. 8 ranked Saints on their home court. Butler lost in three straight sets (25-21, Seward), (25-16, Seward) and (25-14, Seward). Freshman designated server Montana Soderberg had 11 digs for the night, while Scanlon contributed one kill, 18 service aces and seven digs. Rupertova added eight kills, one service ace and four digs.

Wednesday, Oct. 17, the women’s volleyball team headed to Hutchinson to take on the Blue Dragons at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. They fell short in three straight matches to the Blue Dragons (25-19, Hutch), (25-15, Hutch) and (25-15, Hutch). Schulte had 12 digs, Sophomore middle hitter Claudia Hess added four kills and three digs, while Scanlon had two kills, 19 aces and one dig.

“We did not play to our potential and had a really great chance at winning,” Bishop said. “The game is about serve receive and passing, and we did not execute that very well.”

The Grizzlies went on the road to take on the Thunderbirds at Cloud Community College but defeated Cloud 3-0 (25-21, Butler), (25-18, Butler) and (25-22, Butler). Rupertova had 16 kills, five digs and three blocks. Bishop added six kills, six digs and three blocks. Hess put up eight kills, one service ace and one block for the night.
