The stigma around community colleges is insane when it comes to those thinking that universities are better. My own best friend from high school said to my face that since she was going to a four year school that she would be taking higher quality classes than I would be. Actually, we are taking the exact same classes, but my classes are cheaper and smaller in size, so it is easier to receive help from professors. If the classes were not the same, they would not transfer to four year schools, but nice try. Do not let anyone tell you that going to a community college is not as good as going to a university. They’ll be drowning in debt one day.
Going to a community college can also be a good experience for those who are unsure of what direction to go in. Community colleges are a good route for those who are unsure about what they want to major in or want to explore the different degrees that are available to them. A student may not be 100 percent sold on the degree they are pursuing or have no idea what kind of major they want to work towards. At a community college, students can enter college with less worries about student loans and debt because the courses are significantly cheaper than those at a university. At a community college, students are encouraged to find what they really enjoy, what interests them and do not have as much pressure to remain fixated on their initial major.
Community colleges are also great because the competition for scholarships and classes is a lot lower than universities. Almost all community college acceptance rates are 100 percent, which guarantees students the ability to make it in. Looking at the acceptance rate from different universities can differ depending on whether or not it is private, or the division number. Many of those acceptance rates range from 95 percent to two percent. Along with acceptance rate, there is the acceptance for clubs and scholarships. When there is less competition for scholarships, the likelihood that students are going to get it is very high. This means that paying for school is easier, especially because community colleges are already cheaper.
Smaller class sizes are also a great benefit of community colleges. It’s a great benefit because students can get more one-on-one instruction when struggling with a subject. They can also overall, benefit more from a lecture because there will be less distractions during class. Smaller class sizes also give students a chance to get to know their professor and their teaching style. At a university with many students, some class sizes will have more than a hundred people in the class. It’s extremely hard to learn in a class that big because you will not get real engagement with the instructor. Also, at a four year, the professor does not usually end of teaching their large classroom sizes. Instead, a student assistant ends u teaching these classes. At a community college, you most likely will not run in to this.
