Make movies great again

It is a boring Saturday night. You and your girlfriend/boyfriend have worked hard all week long and are looking for a way to unwind and relax. A few ideas pop into your head. Ideas like a big fancy dinner, a trip to a local art museum, or maybe even a concert. Although, you sadly forget that you are in El Dorado, Kansas.

El Dorado, spanish for the middle of absolutely nowhere, is a place where there is not only a lack of things to do, but also a place where there are more fast food restaurants than citizens. But for all the things it lacks, El Dorado makes up for it with its incredible movie theater.

Since the dawn of modern dating, the most common and simplest dates has been a trip to see the movies. And why wouldn’t it be? Besides the excitement and pleasure movies bring people, they are a huge part of our society and play a key, if not central, part of modern popular culture.

Imagine the few, if any, bad things about going to the movies: ticket prices, big crowded theaters and overpriced food. These inconveniences are the reason many couples may only see a movie once every few months. Now take all these things away and you have El Dorado’s own Central Cinema 6 movie theater.

If you were to go to the Warren in Wichita for two tickets, a large popcorn, and  two drinks you would pay a little over $10 for each ticket, about $7 for popcorn, and around $12 for the two drinks, coming to a total of a little less than 40 dollars. At Central Cinema 6 you would spend only $7 for each ticket ($6 with your Butler ID), a little over $4 for the popcorn, and about $6 for the two drinks, coming to the outstanding total of around 24 dollars without your Butler ID, about 40 percent cheaper than the Warren in Wichita.

With such reasonable prices you would think the theater lacks in quality or is too crowded with people all trying to take advantage of such great deal, but this is not the case. The popcorn is as of the same, or in my own opinion better than, the popcorn you would eat at the Warren. The facilities are kept clean and the lobby is well taken care of. Also, when going to see a movie on the weekdays there is a good chance that you and whoever you go with will have the whole theater to yourself and maybe four to five other people. Even if you go on an opening night on a Friday or Saturday, you may find yourself accompanied by perhaps a maximum number of 25 other moviegoers.

So if you find yourself bored or on campus with a little cash, yet you have a longing to be entertained. Skip buying your Juul Pods this week, and take a trip to El Dorado’s Central Cinema 6. Forget the party going on at the apartments and remind yourself of a simpler time, when going to the movies was an adventure in and of itself. Experience this quaint little theater and its efforts to make movies great again.
