Many men have seen the infamous Gillette ad. Rape, sexual harassment, sexual assault, mansplaining, the MeToo movement and toxic masculinity are depicted in the ad. This is a good message because for the past few years sexual harassment has been taken lightly and so has rape and many other social issues concerning women.
This is a wake-up call for men to look in the mirror and ask themselves “Is this the best a man can get?” Men should look out for each other, check themselves and other men. If you feel targeted or offended by this ad, then good.
That means your fragile masculinity has been called into question, and you need to look into the mirror. How can you call yourself a man and watch as other men rape, sexually harass women and if you’re in the power to do something, not do anything?
Got that weird ass uncle that is a little rapey and pushy? Do something about it. Speak to a relative you are close to. Don’t you think your female cousins feel uncomfortable? But some men think that’s normal. Bruh. Do you really think that’s masculine?
Is treating a woman as an object and sexually making jokes about her body or raping a woman masculine? Come on, this isn’t the 60s or the 1900s when women had few rights, and were treated like shit.
It doesn’t make you any less of a man if you treat women with respect and kindness like another human being. I know many different cultures and backgrounds don’t like talking about sexual allegations and rape, but look at R. Kelly for example He’s raped underage girls, has been in relationships with underage girls and even emotionally abused underage girls. Oh that’s R.Kelly. No, that’s a man. A man who has used his “masculinity” and power and raped underage girls, emotionally abused them and dated them.
Do you see what Gillette is talking about now? Guys, it’s time to change.
This change isn’t going to make you any less of that man who can squat 680 or that man who works on a farm all day, pulling and feeding animals. Or that man who works all day in the blistering heat and harsh snow.
Be a better man. Stop sexually harassing women and stop being an asshole towards women. Raise your sons to treat women how you would want your daughter to be treated. Stop forcing sexual actions on women who don’t want you and feel uncomfortable around you.
