Denim and bright colors are everywhere. Graffiti is painted on the walls and “Smells Like Teen Spirit” is playing somewhere off in the distance. It’s the 90’s.. well, almost.

A time when most current students were just born or not even born yet, but a time that holds the fascination of most students and influences today’s pop culture is the 90’s. Shows like “Friends” and “Seinfeld” are popular again, along with scrunchies, fanny packs and high waisted pants.

Students were given the chance to party like they were in the 90’s on Thursday, April 11, when Auh’shay Sanchez, sophomore mass communications major and member of Butler Radio, and SGA partnered up to throw a 90’s themed dance party for students in the small gym.

They also had some assistance in setting up and throwing the party from Residence Life. This party included black lights, glow sticks, a photo booth, musical chairs, balloons, snacks and music… a vibe reminiscent of what a 90’s dance party would be like.

“It was a blast from the past and a blast of fun,” Katie Schirmer, sophomore secondary education major, said. Schirmer attended the dance with her friends.

“This dance was quirky just like the 90’s, and I’m glad me and my Converse could boogie like it was 1995!”

Sanchez was watching a movie that took place in the 90’s when he got the idea to throw the party.

“When I watch movies, my mind starts to explore with possibilities and having the privileges of being an RA made me want to get the whole community engaging, do something fun for everybody,” Sanchez said.

Ashley Masters, freshman nursing major, also attended the dance.

“My friends and I had a lot of fun dressing up and getting to hang out in that atmosphere,” Masters said.
