Director of Career Services Aletra Chaney-Profit started at Butler in the spring semester and plans to help as many students to find the resources to apply and obtain a job that will successfully help them with their future profession.
Career Services, located in the 600 building on the El Dorado campus, near the Registrar, has been vacant for over five years, but now that has changed.
Chaney-Profit is currently the only staff member under Career Services, but plans to expand in the future with student workers and more staff to help her find suitable jobs for the students at BOE. She hopes to reach as many students as she can this year and plans to have more career fairs for the upcoming school year.
“I offer career guidance, and what a day in the life of the profession looks like, or how much do they make or how much schooling do they have to go through, things like that,” Chaney-Profit said. “I compliment the advising staff, and I try to give you some overall occupation of what a certain profession looks like.”
The advising staff help students register for classes and know what classes to take for a career choice. Chaney-Profit favors the career side of advising: She can help build a resume and get students in contact with employers to obtain a job near the school.
“I help with resumes, and we also do mock interviews to get you ready for a job career in college,” Chaney-Profit said. “I am incredibly committed to help our students succeed with employment or get an internship, and I am really excited about the potential this position can do for our college.”
Colleges want students to succeed with the education they receive at their colleges, and Chaney-Profit wants to create a pipeline where students can recommend that Butler accomplishes those needs.
“People want to go where they know they’ll be successful,” Chaney-Profit said. “Students don’t want to just obtain a degree at their college, but get a job after obtaining their degree. People want a better career and a better life right out of college, and I am here to make that transition as smooth as possible.”
