Student Government Association (SGA) and KBTL Butler Radio came together with themed decorations and props to throw a spring fling luau for Butler students on the El Dorado and Andover campuses. All students were welcome to attend and had to present their student IDs at the door.

The party took place on Thursday, April 25 beginning at 8 p.m. and lasted until approximately 11 p.m. According to SGA Vice President Gabriela Guzman, the event was held to honor the spring season and to bring students together. Last year’s spring fling had the same theme.

Both Guzman and SGA President Christian Leis are hopeful to involve students in the future as well and believe that the luau was a positive step towards that goal.

“The turnout was great,” Leis said. “I hope that we start something this year that continues to progress and get more students to our events.”

The luau-themed spring fling consisted of a Hawaii-themed photo drop, various snacks and games and raffles that gave participants the chance to win various prizes, including a television as the grand prize that Claudia Hess won at BOE and Hunter Flanigan won at BOA.

“I really liked the photo booth,” freshman accounting major Bailey Baker said. “It was a cool way to document memories with friends.”

Those who attended the luau were greeted with leis, beaded necklaces, popcorn and other snacks and free t-shirts. Partygoers engaged in classic games like limbo and musical chairs and danced to music DJ’ed by KBTL’s Zeb Campbell and Austin Ashcraft.

“I love DJing school events because it gets the radio station out and in front of Butler students,” Campbell said. “BCC has so many different programs that sometimes students tend to forget us. This year’s turnout was the biggest that I’ve seen and it was amazing!”
Also at the spring fling was a booth set up by the Black Student Association (BSA) in which current members worked on recruiting next year’s members and played games with those who attended the event.

With the school year winding down, SGA is teaming up with organizations and students to host other events to end the school year on a good note.

These events include Grizzly Give Back Day that was held on Saturday, May 4. They are also partnering with Sophomore Trey Varner with planning a stress relief night on Wednesday, May 8 consisting of an improv skit called “Off the Top” at 7:30 p.m.
