Hard work, enthusiasm, and ingenuity have been the model of Professor of Economics Noreen Templin’s work in and outside the classroom. It is for this reason that she was named the Master Teacher Award recipient during the Professional Development Day assembled for Butler Community College faculty.
“Enthusiasm for the subject and for working toward a degree and getting students excited about understanding the world around them,” Noreen Templin said, commenting on the energy she brings to class to keep students continually motivated.
Templin believes that this style of teaching played a large role in receiving the master teacher award.
Since Templin has received the Master Teacher Award, she will also represent Butler as the recipient of the National Institute for Staff and Organizational (NISOD) Excellence Award, which she will receive in May at Austin, Texas.
“My role is being an ambassador to show we are here to educate and develop students into tomorrow’s leaders,” Templin said.
Templin has taught at Butler for over 20 years, getting her start as an adjunct and eventually working her way up to a full-time faculty member in 2011. Throughout that time, she has worked to apply what is going on in the world to the classroom as she teaches economics.
“I take what is going on in the real world and then bring that to the classroom,” Templin said explaining her methods for teaching students. “I also try to do activities and have discussions, applying it to the real world to make better citizens and tomorrow’s leaders.”
Templin has certainly put in the hard work and energy to help her students succeed in college and the real world, which is why she is the recipient of the Master Teacher Award.
