Student Sports Media
Another season of Butler Grizzlies football has begun here at Butler Community College, and it is can’t miss action.
A home game at BG Products stadium is electric and is one of the best experiences you can partake in as a student.
However, for some students who cannot attend the games home or away, a great option for them would be to listen to the game on the radio or online.
For the people that are not familiar with the sports media department here on campus, they streams every football game home and away on the radio station on campus, KBTL 88.1 The Grizz or at butler.listen2myradio.com.
I personally have been involved in many of broadcasts here at Butler Community College, and a lot of work gets put into preparing for games. Preparation work usually begins at the beginning of the week when sports media meets. The people who will broadcast the game that week begin research on both Butler as well as their opponent that week.
Research begins with the memorization process of all players on both rosters, Butler and their opponent.
The research continues all week as we, as a class, study formation on both the offensive and defensive side as well as compelling story lines to give the broadcast a fun and interesting feel.
While you can do all the work in the world with your research, study all the formations and memorize all the players’ names, once it is game day–anything can happen.
The broadcasting group arrives at the stadium a few hours before the game just a little after both teams do.
Just like how both teams use the allotted two hours before the game to warm up and work out any last minute kinks to their game plan, the Sports Media Broadcasting crew does the same.
The time in the booth before a game is a very active scene. Everyone in the booth has their own agenda: Someone is working on pronunciation of names, someone is working on finding out starters and another is usually making sure the equipment works in the first place.
This cycle continues for the next few hours that the sports media team has left before kickoff as the time on the pregame clock ticks away.
Once the clock strikes double zero, it doesn’t just mean kickoff for the game, but now the media team is live and ready to roll to give everyone who can’t be at the game a chance to tune in and experience Butler Grizzly football.
