Coming back home seems to be the trend for Butler’s new associate athletic director.

Butler recently hired Tyler Nordman. Nordman replaced former Associate Athletic Director Matt Jacobs who was in the position for 12 years. Nordman spent the past two years at Highland Community College as athletic director but is now coming back home to Butler County where he is originally from. Nordman went to Highland on a basketball scholarship and then completed his career at Newman.

He said the thought of wanting to come back home to work seemed like the right fit for him and his family, which is what drew him to return to Butler County.

“The thought of moving back home being closer to family, coming to a bigger school, more tradition, more resources, more people, really just the right opportunity at the right time,” Nordman said.

Nordman always wanted to be a coach, but becoming an athletic director led him down the right path.

“I never thought about [becoming] an athletic administrator,” Nordman said. “I always thought I’d be coaching when I was in college, but one thing led to another.”

Head Athletic Director Todd Carter is excited about how he thinks Nordman will represent Butler.

“By adding him, it should help our fundraising and sponsorships, but Tyler has got a lot of experience as an athletic director already, so I think with his knowledge he is going to fit right in,” Carter said. “He’s very good at it. He’s already changed a bunch of our graphics.” He just brings a new attitude, a joyful experience; he’s already to go.”

Overall, Nordman is ready to work for Butler given the reputation that the college has.

“Obviously, they have a lot of tradition and pride,” Nordman said. “I heard Dr. [Kim] Krull say the other day in our orientation, you don’t have to say Butler Community College when somebody asksww you where you work, you can just say Butler and they understand you are talking about the college. That says a lot about the pride, the tradition and the community outreach that Butler has.”
