It has been an exciting start to the Butler Grizzlies Women’s Soccer season as two Butler Community College Student Athletes were announced as KJCCC weekly honorees for week two.
With two clean sheets on the year, sophomore goalkeeper Lexi Winkle managed to keep her side at zero against two respectable top 10 teams, Navarro (Texas) and Lewis and Clark (Illinois). With her performance, she helped the Grizzlies go up in the rankings from No. 8 to No. 5 in the poll.
“It would not have happened without the help of all the other 10 girls in front of me,” Winkle said.
Winkle served under last year’s goalkeeper Bethany Reeves who received local and national attention.
“To get [goalkeeper] of the week is an awesome opportunity for me especially, since last year,” Winkle said. “Having those big performances in the big games really boosts my confidence as we continue to play all our conference games.”
After scoring the game winner over Navarro (Texas) and assisted in the game winner against Lewis and Clark (Illinios), sophomore forward Pricsila Bonilla made a name for herself co- player of the week.
“It means a lot to me because it shows that we’re improving as a team,” Bonilla said. “It also means a lot to me because my freshman year, I struggled to get minutes during the game, and I feel like this year my teammates helped me find the drive I was missing to play hard.”
Bonilla also helped freshman forward Karter Corini with the game winning header against Lewis and Clark (Illinios).
