The Women’s soccer team suffered its second straight loss at home this year, which is the first time in 10 years. It has not been an ideal season statistically as the Grizzlies are only averaging 1.57 goals per game, a season low for the team. In the last five years, the Grizzlies have averaged 4.11 goals per game.

“I think we’re in a place that we have not been in a long time and a place that the program never been which is.. not getting into the playoffs… and where this program has been in the last 20 years… it’s frustrating and disappointing,” Head Coach Adam Hunter said. “We are shattering the school record for fewest goals scored in a season.”

The season is currently up in the air as it was announced on Tuesday, Oct. 8 that the Grizzlies are currently out of the top 20 polls after 81 consecutive weeks, a streak dating back to 2011. As of now, the Grizzlies are 8-4-1 (4-3-1 in conference) and sitting in 5th place in the KJCCC East, only two points behind in the playoff rankings.

“[As of Saturday, Oct. 5] We got 12 points left to play for, and I would think that if we could get nine or 10 points out of the last 12 (last four games), then we should be in the playoffs,” Hunter said

The Butler Grizzlies soccer season is nearing its end as there are four more game left in the regular season. After a few lightning delays occurred during the Cowley game in Arkansas City on Wednesday, Oct. 2 the game was called. The game was rescheduled and will take place Tuesday, Oct. 22 in Cowley. This game offers a chance for the Grizzlies to win out and get a good chance at a playoff spot.

“We’ll try to fight for points in these last four games and see what we can do,” Hunter said.

The Grizzlies played against the Coffeyville Red Ravens on Wednesday, Oct. 9. They managed to walk out of Coffeyville with a win with a late first half goal by freshman midfielder Rachel Wolecki and a late header by sophomore backfielder Sandra Thiman in the second half gave the Grizzlies a 2-0 victory.

As of Wednesday, Oct. 9 the Grizzlies are currently in third place in the Jayhawk East Division and took Neosho County on Saturday, Oct. 12.
